HOW WE HELP

WE CAN HELP IN MANY CIRCUMSTANCES

Working families frequently find themselves evicted for non-payment or at the risk of eviction when they have an unexpected bill or loss of income due to illness, shortened work hours, need to take care of a minor child or aging parent or abandonment or death of a spouse.  Domestic violence, physical and mental illness, substance abuse and incarceration all contribute to individuals and families becoming unhoused.

For far too many families, the cost of living outpaces what they earn. These households struggle to manage even their most basic needs – housing, food, transportation, child care, health care, and necessary technology. https://uwayep.org/alice

When funds run short, cash-strapped households are forced to make impossible choices, such as deciding between quality child care or paying the rent, filling a prescription or fixing the car. These short-term decisions have long-term consequences.

FCCH provides short-term emergency housing and connects at-risk individuals with local services to develop long-term housing plans. Volunteers and partners ensure recipients receive adequate food, clothing if needed, and school access for their children during their hotel stay.

FCCH and our volunteers helps in a wide variety of ways, including:

Helping prepare and serve nourishing meals at the many locations that serve food to the homeless.

Donating warm clothes in the winter.

Encouraging landlords to provide safe homes at reasonable rents.

Donating food to be distributed to the homeless.

Donating sleeping bags, tents, tarps or ground covers.

Supporting our partner organizations that provide counseling and other support services to help our citizens get and keep housing.

Providing transportation to medical appointments and jobs.
